The use of sulfide cluster-derived catalysts to understand the promotional effect in hydrotreatment catalysis

Sulfide cluster-derived ensembles are promising models of the active sites in commercial hydrotreatment catalysts. A series of sulfide clusters were adsorbed intact onto high-surface-area γ-alumina, magnesium oxide and activated carbon supports, then pretreated to produce highly dispersed catalytic ensembles with sizes similar to those of their precursor clusters. The activities of the bimetallic cluster-derived catalysts were significantly higher than those of the monometallic catalysts. We took this as evidence that direct interactions between molybdenum and the promoter element cause the promotional effect observed in commercial hydrotreatment catalysts. The hydrodesulfurization and hydrodenitrogenation activities correlated with the extent of molybdenum reduction. Our results suggested that the active sites in promoted hydrotreatment catalysts are centered on molecular-scale ensembles containing molybdenum, sulfur and the promoter element.     

Spectroscopic studies of new model compounds for poly[N,N′-bis(phenoxyphenyl)pyromellitimide]

New model compounds for poly[N,N′-bis(phenoxyphenyl)pyromellitimide] have been synthesized in order to investigate the formation of imine bonds which are proposed to form during the curing process and lead to crosslinking in the bulk polymer. Raman studies show that terminal amines can react with imide carbonyls during curing to form C?N bonds. The Raman band due to C?N appears at 1656 cm^?1 and the band due to C?O closest to the imine bond is observed at 1742 cm^?1. These results are in agreement with previously published results on vapor deposited polyimide films.

On top-down splaying

The splay tree is a self-adjusting binary search tree which has a good amortized performance. This paper studies some properties of top-down splay trees. Different ways to charge for the primitive operations of top-down splaying are discussed. We also give some empirical results concerning the behaviour of different top-down restructuring algorithms.This work was supported by the Academy of Finland.     

A Simple Chaotic Circuit with Impulsive Switch Depending on Time and State

This paper presents a simple chaotic circuit consisting of two capacitors, one linear two-port VCCS and one time-state-controlled impulsive switch. The impulsive switch causes rich chaotic and periodic behavior. The circuit dynamics can be simplified into a one-dimensional return map that is piecewise linear and piecewise monotone. Using the return map, we clarify parameter conditions for existence of chaotic and periodic attractors and coexistence state of attractors.     

Illuminating Molecular Processes in Living Cells

Lately, scientists have explored approaches to developing fluorescent and/or bioluminescent indicators to pinpoint cellular processes in single living cells. These analytical methods have become a key technology for visualizing and detecting what was otherwise unseen in live cells. The target signaling included second messengers, protein phosphorylations, protein–protein interactions, and protein localizations.

本文对 meso-四(2-H-5-SP)P 的提纯方法进行了改进,同时以光度法研究了该试剂在水溶液中的酸碱平衡、测得其 pKa_1、pKa_2、pKa_3、pKa_4分别为2.99,4.21,8.68,10.28。     

A comparison theorem for a piecewise Lipschitz continuous Hamiltonian and application to Shape-from-Shading problems

Summary The reconstruction from a shaded image of a Lambertian and not self-shadowing surface illuminated by a single distant pointwise light source may be written as a first-order Hamilton-Jacobi equation.In this paper, we continue the investigation begun in E. Rouy and A. Tourin into the uniqueness of the solution of this equation; the approach is based on the viscosity solutions theory and the dynamic programming principle.More precisely, we concentrate here on the uniqueness of the viscosity solution of this equation in case the measured luminous intensity reflected by the surface is discontinuous along a smooth curve. We prove a general comparison result for a piecewise Lipschitz continuous Hamiltonian and illustrate it by numerical experiments.     

A neutron polarization analysis study of Ce2Fe17 in its paramagnetic phase

Spin-flip (paramagnetic) scattering and neutron depolarization studies were performed on Ce₂Fe₁₇ in its paramagnetic phase on the Dhruva neutron polarization analysis spectrometer. The absence of normalQ dependence of the scattered spin flip intensity shows that Ce₂Fe₁₇ is not a normal paramagnetic and there exist superparamagnetic clusters of sufficiently large dimensions (～100Å). The observed neutron depolarization gives an indication of the dynamics of these Ce₂Fe₁₇ superparamagnetic clusters.
